Rachel Salemi is a third-year graduate student in Microbiology at the University of Wisconsin—Madison. She received a BA in biological sciences with a minor in chemistry from Mount Holyoke College. Through independent research as an undergraduate and beyond, Rachel developed an appreciation for microbes, inspiring her to pursue a graduate degree. In graduate school, Rachel has continued to study basic microbial biology and has broadened her focus to include scientific outreach both at the level of interacting with public audiences and organizing outreach events. Rachel aspires to start a lab that provides service to the local community in the form of comprehensive scientific outreach and education.
